Front garden update: May 30. Our Montmorency cherry tree arrived today! It shipped bare-root and dormant from the Arbor Day foundation. At the top, you can see it in its bare-rooted glory; the next photo shows my husband staking the little guy. It should look more tree-like later this summer, and will probably fruit in a couple of years. Right now the tree is about 3.5-4 feet tall, but it will be 6-7 feet when it’s all grown up.

The bottom two pictures show some other front garden activity. At left—a bud popped up on one of my hostas. I’m looking forward to see what the ensuing flower will look like. At right—we also ordered this little Korean boxwood for a container on my front porch.
